Cleveland Life Coach - Tips For More Focused Energy

Need more energy? Who doesn't?! And even if you are blessed with an abundance of this precious commodity, perhaps you could benefit from the ability to focus your energy to be more positive as well as more productive. Here are 4 suggestions to get the flow of energy moving and to keep it moving in the right direction.

1) Take 4 slow deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Breathe in to a count of 4, hold for a count of 4, and exhale to a count of 4. Just by using this simple breathing technique, you send a signal to your body to relax and let go of tension. The oxygen helps to re-energize your body and focus the mind as well. People tend to take very shallow breaths from the chest when under stress, which can contribute to fuzzy thinking and feeling tired. It is important to learn to breathe into the belly. Do this belly breathing at least 4 times per day. Choose 4 times that are easy to remember such as when you awaken, before lunch, before dinner, and before bed. That way, you will help to establish a healthful habit that is just a natural part of your daily routine.

2) Drink at least 4 ounces of pure, clean water several times throughout the day. Many of us are chronically dehydrated and don't even realize it. Never was this more true for me than as a classroom teacher. (In fact, it is almost an occupational hazard!) Thirst contributes to fatigue and can also be mistaken for hunger. Drink plenty of water, in just the right amount for you each day. Dr. Andrew Weil recommends 6-8 glasses per day. Many health professionals advise drinking the majority of your water before meals and sipping water between meals rather than during. This helps with digestion.

3) Think of 4 things that you are grateful for. The power of gratitude bears repeating. As Wayne Dyer has quoted, "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." Just by focusing on what is right with the world, that simple act helps to change your state and put you into a much better frame of mind. Think about the Law of Attraction and the energy of your life. "What you focus on expands." To be your personal best and live a life of joy and fulfillment, you need to keep the flame of passion alive with gratitude. When you are in a state of gratitude, the sparks of energy will fly in the face of any challenge.

4) Take 4 minutes for you. That's right, just 4 minutes. Spend those 4 minutes in whatever way you choose that will allow you to re-focus your energy. Perhaps you might like to enjoy a favorite upbeat song, stretch your body, light an aromatherapy candle and watch the flame, or simply sit with your eyes closed and do absolutely nothing but relax. You could also use this 4 minutes to do a simple task that will free up my mind and therefore your energy, like clearing off your work space or sorting through the mail. The activity is not what is important - it's the feeling of freedom at the end of the 4 minutes that allows you to feel energized no matter how you chose to spend the time. Trust your own intuition on this one. You know what you need better than anyone.

Well, there you have it: 4 simple ways to power up your energy throughout the day - and the best part about it is that there are no excuses for not doing these things. You don't need a big block of time, special equipment, an instructor, etc. You can do these things anytime and anyplace. All you need is your own personal power of choice to do something different. Got Stress? How to Stay UP in a DOWN Economy!

I know that those of us in northern Ohio and the Cleveland area are not the only ones feeling the stress of the economy! When faced with the daily news that things are not getting any better, unemployment is skyrocketing, foreclosures are becoming almost commonplace and bail-outs just keep on coming...You may begin to feel like a victim and slip into that awful state of panic, distress, and helplessness which only serves to create a downward negative spiral that if left unchecked can become a powerful vortex that saps your energy and seemingly sucks you dry. Sound familiar?

So, WHAT CAN WE DO? That is the question that is central to your survival when faced with tough financial times. This one question serves to focus your attention on those
things that ARE within your control and within your "Circle of Influence" as Steven Covey refers to this all important realm. Without the ability to stay centered, your mind will be left to run rampant in a state of heightened reactivity to every piece of news that makes it into your conscious awareness. Like James Ray said, "You have to be informed, but not inundated." Think of that as the first piece of advice to staying centered.

Next, learn to recognize and effectively deal with your ANTS - those Automatic Negative Thoughts that seem to infect the mind in a way that causes the logic behind them to go unquestioned. This is a great issue to deal with in a life coaching session. Also, there are many great books out there to help as well such as Dr. Daniel Amen's Magnificent Mind at Any Age and Martin Seligman's Learned Optimism. I recommend both of those books as excellent resources to help in troubled times. Besides, if you are filling your mind with all this worthwhile, uplifting information, that in and of itself will serve as a positive distraction from fruitless worry!

That brings me to the third point which is the need to see the positive intention behind fear and worry which help to keep you safe from danger and help you to prepare yourself for an upcoming event. Once you are reasonably assured of your safety and have taken steps to prepare yourself, then any worry beyond that point is unnecessary and certainly disruptive to your sense of inner peace.

Lastly, what can we do to build our core confidence and inner peace? The best thing I know of is to tap into the power of mind, body, and spirit through hypnosis. Hypnosis can help you to calm the body, focus the mind, and renew the spirit. You can even remove blocks to financial abundance and strengthen your resolve to face the challenges of daily living. Perhaps most importantly, hypnosis will help to give your body a chance to cultivate the relaxation response to help mitigate the effects of stress. By taking the time to relax each day, ironically - you are practicing the best strategy I know of to enhance your productivity. So, when the going gets tough, the tough have the energy to get going!
